Laki'ahn was named after an aquatic species, the laki. Highly prized red gemstones can be found within their bodies, and so the D'ni resorted to savage gladiatorial games between the laki and the Kresh (pronounced "kreesh"), a warrior-like race native to Laki'ahn. The red gemstones were then taken from the arena into a trade house by a door set aside for use by the jewelers.
The Age, on an island in an azure sea, is sandy and contains a type of palm tree. Massive boulders of gray stone also dominate the landscape, creating an almost maze-like topology. The island's focal point, however, is the gladiatorial arena and the trade house, along with an enclosure and a holding cage, presumably meant for captive laki. By the use of Laki'ahn's Bahro Tablet it is possible to raise a sandstorm which lasts for approximately ninety seconds. The Age also undergoes a solar eclipse at fairly frequent and regular intervals.
Esher, an elderly D'ni archivist with dreams of restoring D'ni to its former glory, believes that the Kresh reverted to a barbaric state after the fall of D'ni.
