[h=1]This Year in Other Calendars[/h] 7657 - 7656 BCE [h=1]Events[/h] [article=Ri'Neref, King|Ri'Neref] and several thousand followers petition the King of Ronay for permission to split from the rest of the Ronay evacuees. Surveyors in the D'ni Cavern establish a Zero mark and line, as was customary for Ronay Ages. This mark became known as the "[article=Great Zero]." A monument was erected on this spot. Construction along the line emanating from the Great Zero was reserved for holy buildings. Other construction along this line was prohibited without the King's permission. [article=Ri'Neref, King|Ri'Neref] and several thousand Ronay evacuees arrive in the Cavern. [article=Ri'Neref, King|Ri'Neref] coronated as the first King of D'ni. For the full timeline of events both Classic and Modern see the [article=D'ni Timeline|Grand Unified Timeline].
  8. I think that if such a thing were to happen, the D'ni Linguistic Fellowship would have first rights to taking up that mantle. Are you familiar with the DLF? Alternately, are you asking on behalf of the DLF? The DLF was discussing this very idea at one point: http://linguists.bahro.com/forums/index.ph...c=1323&st=0 If you mean to ask a more general question about if and how will new guilds, for example GoL, be established, then I don't know. I highly doubt that Cyan is thinking about adding official guilds. The community of explorers will probably provisionally accept any well run group. Hopefully that answers whichever question you asked.
  9. I was over at MOUL forum, reading about MORE and FCAL and what each Guild is doing and I realized that the role GOA will play in the FCAL committee has more of a pre-production aspect to it. GoMa and maybe the Writers will be checking for errors in the final product. GoA is looking for errors in the story, or parts of it. Fixing a buggy Age is annoying, but doable, probably. Fixing a buggy story, at the point of final submission, could require substantial alterations to the very nature of the Age, or it's puzzles, or the journey involved. In light of this, I wonder if we might not set up a kind of proposal review committee, distinct from the FCAL committee. The proposal review committee will review proposals and early drafts of Ages/stories. Storytellers can submit a brief sketch of their stories, including any material they deem uncertain, and the proposal committee will provide recommendations. proposal approval will not be a required part of the FCAL process, not will proposal approval guarantee FCAL approval. Rather, I see the proposal committee as a service that GOA can offer to storytellers to help them avoid headaches down the road. Obviously, this idea is a ways away from implementation. First we need a functioning FCAL approval process, then we can think about this extra service. I just thought I'd get the idea out there while I am thinking about it.

    Korfah V'ja

The Korfah V'ja is the ceremony by which a Book is accepted into the [article id=688]Canon of the Guild of Writers[/article]. As few Books were accepted into the canon it was a rare ceremony. The smaller more private ceremony occurred on the Age of [article title=Yakul] Yakul [/article] attended by the assistant grand masters and Grand Master. There is also a second, more public, ceremony in the newly accepted Age. Veovis was given a Korfah V'ja for [article title=Ader Jamat]Ader Jamat[/article]. Gehn performed a Korfah V'ja for Atrus after he wrote his first Age, [article title=Inception]Inception[/article]. It is likily that that Korfah V'ja did not closely resemble the traditional ritual of the D'ni.
  11. I'll pipe in here to restate what I think the current situation is: 1. GOA and storytellers are not the same organization 2. DPWR will gladly host the storytellers (but see #3) 3. DPWR will not provide the secrecy that storytellers desire 4. Storytellers may be happier somewhere else The reason why #3 is true I am not certain of. It may be from Alahmnat's desire for GOA to be as transparent as possible considering the gravity of its involvement in FCAL and MORE. Alternately, it may be a position that Almahnat has taken regarding DPWR in general. Hidden boards by definition mean that some people can't see some things, which means someone is some how deciding who is IN and who is OUT. The point I mean to reemphasize is that GOA is not trying to arbitrarily drive storytellers away, but rather thinks they might be happier somewhere else. I, and probably others, would encourage collaboration between storytellers and GOA, but one is neither the same nor meets all the needs of the other.
  12. I assume that you visited the article on the historical guild here in our very own Archive? here's a link in case you or anyone else has not stopped by. I also made an article for the Restored Guild, but anyone can feel free to edit it, especially as things are changing rapidly both for us and for the URU community. Gold is our special color, but you are right that we don't know what the guild symbol is. I am content for now with the open book that currently adorns the website. I think that after we figure out MORE and FCAL we can focus more on guild symbols and t-shirts and everything.
  13. [h=1]Guild of Archivists[/h] Established: Announced 2008 CE Cloak Color: Gold Guild Symbol: An open book set inside a circle The Guild of Archivists' primary duty is to create and maintain a complete archive of all things D'ni-related. This section is written from an Out-of-Cavern perspective. The Archivists were one of the three Guilds that Cyan had included in plans related to Fan-Created Age Licenses and the Myst Online Restoration Effort, though both of these projects have effectively been canceled. The Guild, though, remains committed to providing a high-quality resource for those interested in telling their own stories about and within D'ni and its Ages. The Guild of Archivists has no location in the cavern, but can be found outside the cavern at www.GuildOfArchivists.org. [h=1]Leadership[/h] Grand Master: Alahmnat
  14. I would like to apply for membership in GOA. I am not sure I am up on my politics, or the most recent events regarding MORE, but I would be glad to work on the archive itself. Your early discussion of guildsmen setting standards, cleaning, and keeping the archive clean appeals to me. Horatio
  15. [h=1]Guild of Writers[/h] Established: Announced 2007 CECloak Color: Black with Dark Red Trim Guild Symbol: Pen Nib [h=2]Restored Guild[/h] The Guild of Writers is one of the five Guilds that the DRC has encouraged and supported the restoration of. Their primary responsibility is the Writing of new Ages. They work very closely with the Guild of Maintainers to ensure that the Ages they create are stable and suitable to be visited by explorers. The DRC has stated in their information in Kirel that "in the future, we hope that the new Guild of Writers continues the tradition of making new Ages available. Though often considered the most elite of the Guilds, the Writers' tasks were also considered the most arduous and intense. We assume that the new tasks will be just as intense
  16. [h=1]Guild of Maintainers[/h] Established: Announced 2007 CECloak Color: Burgundy Guild Symbol: An unblinking eye over a Book [h=2]Restored Guild[/h] The Guild of Maintainers is one of the five Guilds that the DRC has encouraged and supported the restoration of. Their primary duty is the inspection and approval of Ages written by the restored Guild of Writers. They also have taken some responsibility for maintaining safety in the cavern as well as inspecting and reporting on Ages after the DRC has released them to the explorers. The DRC has stated in their information in Kirel that "in the future, we hope that the new Guild of Maintainers will be the first people into every Age. The Maintainers will test all new areas for stability and functionality and any Age released to the public will require Maintainer approval." The DRC was able to open a pub specific to the Guild of Maintainers, and all who have picked up their t-shirt in Kirel have access to it through the nexus system. There is also at least one neighborhood associated with the Guild of Maintainers. Outside of the cavern they may be found at http://www.guildofmaintainers.org.Members of the Guild may be distinguished on the Guild's forum by the maroon color of their profile name. They have maintained as much activity as possible in inspecting Ages in close cooperation with the Guild of Writers. The Guild of Maintainers, often referred to as GoMa, completed elections for several leadership positions at the end of November 2007. In the summer of 2009 the leadership stepped down officially and took on the role of moderators. The Guild is currently without official leadership. With the reopening of the Cavern in February of 2010 elections for new leadership are expected. 17. [h=1]Guild of Cartographers [/h] Established: Announced 2007 CECloak Color: Turquoise Guild Symbol: Protractor on a compass rose [h=2]Restored Guild[/h] The Guild of Cartographers is one of the five guilds the DRC has encouraged and supported for restoration. Their primary duty is the creation of maps for all of the Ages and areas released by the DRC. The DRC has stated in their information in Kirel that "in the future, we hope that the new Guild of Cartographers will create detailed maps and analyses of new Ages before they are released to the public. These maps will include geographical areas, machinery, instrumentation and the like." The DRC was able to open a pub specific to the Guild of Cartographers, and all who have picked up their t-shirt in Kirel have access to it through the nexus system. There is no neighborhood associated with the Guild of Cartographers. Outside of the cavern they may be found at GoC Technical Data Site and Founding Web Site In April 2008 Grand Master Aiden disappeared along with the GoC web site he created, UruMaps.com. Currently handling Guild affairs is Guild Master Nalates. [h=2]Guild History[/h] Guild members active and involved during the founding of the Guild in 2004 were: Pa'trick, Ricka, EyeDE, Moiety Jean, Sel-than, Janniran, M'Kenzi, Nalates, Jack294, myridean, Linkin Imp, CeeVee, and L-Annai. In Decemeber 2003 the first Grand Master, Pa'trick, signed his posts as Futographer. In January 2004 he was signing posts as Guild Coordinator. About January 20 he began signing as a Guild Master. As there was little if any organization, the promotion was a self made one. He posted requesting objections to the self-promotion and there were none. In what seems Guild of Cartographers' tradition now he was confirmed as Guild Master by Guild members January 21, 2004 by unanimous agreement. Later that day the Guild was adopting the member titles we use today and Jenniran proposed that the top title be changed to Grand Master. January 22, 2004 Futographer publicly adopted the title; Pa'trick Grand Master of the Cartographer's Guild. It was adopted and remains in use today as does the shortened version, Grand Master Pa

[h=1]Guild of Messengers[/h] Established: Announced 2007 CECloak Color: Yellow Guild Symbol: A Winged Linking Book [h=2]Restored Guild[/h] The Guild of Messengers is one of the five guilds that the DRC has encouraged and supported the restoration of. Their primary duty is to promote and facilitate communication both between explorers and between the DRC and the explorers. The DRC has stated in their information in Kirel that "in the future, we hope that the new Guild of Messengers will be able to organize communications for explorers and the DRC. We hope to create a system whereby the Guild can carry out announcements, news events, important messages, and the like for all of those who visit the cavern." The Guild of Messengers, often referred to as GoMe, has spent several months drawing together the major messaging organizations in the cavern, but recently it developed an internal staff with its projects. The DRC was able to open a pub specific to the Guild of Messengers, and all who have picked up their t-shirt in Kirel have access to it through the nexus system. Outside of the cavern they may be found at http://www.guildofmessengers.com The Guild of Messengers currently conducts elections for the members of the Guild Council. 19. [h=1]Guild of Greeters[/h] Established: 2003 CE (9659 DE) Cloak Color: Green with Cyan Trim Guild Symbol: "Helping Hands" [h=2]Restored Guild[/h] The Guild of Greeters is one of the five guilds that the DRC has encouraged and supported the establishment of. They are unique in that there was no historical Guild of Greeters.Their primary duty is to welcome new explorers to the cavern and provide resources both in and out of the cavern to help and support them. They are easily identified by their "Helping Hands" shirts, which have the image of two hands reaching for each other. The DRC has stated in their information in Kirel that "in the future, we hope that the Guild of Greeters will be the first to meet visitors and new explorers and will have the tools to make those experiences as good as they can possibly be. Greeters will be responsible for making the transition from rookie visitor to seasoned explorer as smooth as possible." The Guild of Greeters, often referred to as GoG, was formed during Prologue by Ron Meiners and Tijara who recruited a large group to join them. It survived through the closing of the cavern and remained active until the cavern was reopened. The Guild Masters adopted a new leadership structure on December, 9, 2007, which became effective on January 1, 2008. The DRC was able to open a pub specific to the Guild of Greeters, and all who have picked up their t-shirt in Kirel have access to it through the nexus system (this is not the same t-shirt that Greeters wear on duty, and it does not confer membership). The Guild of Greeters has members in their neighborhood at all times awaiting visitors. They are one of only two neighborhoods that are permanently at the top of the list of public bevins. Outside of the cavern they may be found at www.guildofgreeters.com The current leadership consists of Grand Master Indy, and Guild Masters Ayli, Ja'de, Kurtg1265 and Rex Havoc. Tijara, the former Grand Master, remains involved with her husband Tech as both own the forum and website, and provide counsel to the current leadership.
